Great Events Near Milton Keynes This Summer
Milton Keynes is a young town, but it is beginning to develop itself as one of the hubs for cultural activity in The Midlands: all within its short, 50-year history. Since summer is quickly approaching, it’s time to start making some plans for some activities make the most of the great weather we are all hoping to have.
Here at Jaspers Hire Ltd, we have a wealth of experience in servicing events throughout Milton Keynes, so we have put together a shortlist of some of the great events we think you should be looking out for this year.
Swanbourne Music Festival – Sunday, August 26th (2018)
Swanbourne Music Festival is a fresh face in the great events put on in Milton Keynes each year, with 2018 set to be only its second showing. Colloquially known as Betsey’s Fest to the locals, Swanbourne showcases a mixture of local bands and huge, commercial artists to be sure to cater to everyone’s taste.
With food and drinks, arts and crafts, and a whole host of fun activities to complement the live music on show, Swanbourne Music Festival is set to be a great day out for all of the family. Scouting for Girls is even headlining, playing a mixture of their classic songs and their latest and greatest – a truly unmissable occasion.
MK Marathon – Monday, May 7th (2018)
Ranked in the top ten marathons in the UK, the MK Marathon is quickly making a name for itself as a highly-anticipated event in the running calendar. The course, which starts fittingly at Stadium MK, makes the most of the cycle paths and idyllic scenery of Milton Keynes as you meander around the city boulevards and drive through Ouzel Valley.
The day consists of various events, all for different crowds. There is the full marathon, the marathon relay, the half marathon (which was rated as second best in the UK last year), the 5k, and the ‘superhero fun run’. All of these options promise to provide spectators and participators with hours of fun, and there sure to be an air of accomplishment around.
Dragon Boat Race – Saturday, June 23rd (2018)
The final instalment on our list is the Dragon Boat Race of Willen Lake, which is a collaboration between Gable Events and MacIntyre (a charity focusing on providing support to people with learning disabilities). Dragon boat racing is seen as one of the fastest growing water activities in the UK, but is actually based upon an Ancient Chinese tradition, and it is the act of up to 16 people rowing a 40-foot boat. This is the 17th annual Dragon Boat Race at Willen Lake, which is expected to bring in thousands of spectators.
There will be plenty of entertainment for the whole family – aside from the main event of the participants competing across a 200m course – and it will be a great day to spend a (hopefully) sunny Saturday in late-June.
Something for Everyone, All Year Round
This is truly just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the vast amounts of great events happening in Milton Keynes – and it is all year round, not just in the summer. There is something for music lovers, the athletes among us, and those interested in the burgeoning popularity of Ancient Chinese traditions in the UK – as well as everyone in between.
